The last two days have been so busy. I came back from a great vacation to two new hires to manage, along with the two already in my group. Along with problems with equipment, training, a project coming to fruition and problems with that. It’s been 10 hour days.
I did managed some training this week, though: 1800 yd at the resort pool on Sunday before we hit the road, a 21 fast ride on Monday when we got back from Savannah, a 45 minute swim (2100 yd) on Tuesday morning, and a six-mile run with Vibrams Wednesday afternoon. Thursday and today, there was just too much work.
Vacation…well, I did have a half-Ironman to recover from, but I did a 7 & 9 mile run during the week, along with a lot of walking at Universal Studios, and general swimming around at the pool…
So, looking back, I guess I did have some good training. It was more ad hoc and what I felt like doing. Unstructured. Unfocused.
So, what am I feeling, cuz I am getting at something. Unstructured training, plus no workouts in the past two days, should equal an anxious Kip. Especially when I am running a half-marathon race on Sunday morning. I feel some disappointment at not getting out the past two days, but there is no anxiety of “will I finish?” It’s more of “let’s just see how this goes and can I break two hours?” I am still just looking forward to the experience. This stands in start contrast to how I felt before White Lake. True it was bigger, longer and more challenging, but my mind was floating on this level of wanting to break six hours. There was a level of anxiety that I couldn’t come down from.
One thing the last two days, the last four really, is how I will handle Ironman training. I have decided to go for what I have wanted for a very long time: to finish a full Ironman. The plan starts in the beginning of June and finishes at the Beach 2 Battleship Ironman in Wilmingon NC on November 13, 2010. But the question in my mind is, with my new role at work, am I biting off more than I can chew? Well, I’m not sure, but the training will commence and I will see how it goes. What else can I do, right? At the very least, I can do the half-iron distance instead.
Also, I have been wanting to do a “race report” on White Lake, and it will come soon, but vacation was just to sweet to spend on the computer. That, and my wife likes to hog the laptop at night. LOL!
This week was a bit of a whirlwind having just come back from vacation. I must admit that I am impressed with the workouts you were able to accomplish during this hectic week. Then again, I probably shouldn’t be. You are a man on fire regarding these races!
As far as my laptop hogging….you liked it!
